Scale-up: A Biomass Plant Perspective

Many people have been involved in developing biochar markets and technologies during the last few years but appropriate technologies for small production of biochar, biochar and heat, or biochar, heat and power are still not readily available. A small biochar producer needs a variety of feedstocks, low volume - high value biochar markets and a reliable production system to support a biochar business. The biochar entrepreneur is challenged by uncertain markets, limited technical knowledge, limited technical support, costly technology, and limited feedstocks. This presentation uses the example of a biomass power plant to show what biochar entrepreneurs must consider in planning an industrial biochar production facility.
