Using Lump Charcoal Byproducts as a Soil Amendment

Is there a place in the biochar community for materials whose source is the byproduct of lump charcoal production? By several arguments, the strongest being well documented field trials by a well known biochar advocate, the answer is a resounding 'yes': charcoal produced intentionally as lump charcoal but is too small commercially to be sold in that form is a legitimate source of carbon for building the soil.
